Help Pay Heating or Cooling Costs -

 The Energy Assistance Program

   Eligibility

    Is determined by several factors. 2 of the main requirements are:

 

 

  1. The household pays for home heating costs, either directly to an energy vendor or indirectly through rental costs.

  2. For the 2006 Program Year, the gross income (Income before taxes are taken out) received by all members of the household must be at or below 125 percent of the Federal poverty level. A 20 percent deduction will be calculated from gross wages and salaries  (Some exceptions do apply) that are taxed at the time of payout - when calculating Average Monthly Income.. (Taxed means income tax, Social Security tax, and/or FICA tax .)

Where and when can I apply?

Okanogan County Community Action usually starts the Energy Assistance program every November or December, depending on when federal money is released to the state. Start dates will be posted on our web site and you can call us at 422-4041 or toll free at 1-877-641-0101. You will then be put on a waiting list and then mailed an appointment date, with instructions on the (Click to View - ) Required Documentation for Application,  when your name comes to the top of the list.

What is LIHEAP?                         

LIHEAP stands for Low Income Home Energy Assistance Program.  LIHEAP a federally funded block grant that provides money to help low income households make home heating/cooling more affordable, avoid shutoff of utility services during the winter, and maintain a comfortable, safe, and healthy environment for households with young children, the elderly, and the disabled.
