WEATHERIZATION

Provides energy saving measures to dwellings, including insulation, venting, and/or air sealing to help make the home more energy efficient.  All assistance depends on the availability of funds and ability of applicants to meet eligibility requirements.  This program is available in Okanogan County.

What We Do....

·         When it is time to schedule your home for an energy audit, our office will make an appointment for the auditor to come to your home.  The auditor will conduct an assessment to determine what, if anything, can be done to reduce the energy consumption of your home.

·         After your home is audited, the program will assign our weatherization technicians to perform the actual weatherization work.

·         Our technicians will make an appointment to see your home and review the work that was assigned by the Weatherization program.  The landlord will be included in this process if the home is a rental.  The work will then proceed according to a work schedule the technicians coordinate with you.

·         When the technicians have completed the work, the energy auditor will make an appointment to come out to your home and inspect the work that has been done.  You will be responsible to have someone over 18 years old at home for the audit and the inspection.

Determining Eligibility

·         Owners and renters are both eligible, provided they meet the program  requirements.

·         Income for the household from all household members over the age of 18, should not exceed 125% of the poverty level.

·         There is no cost to owner / residents or tenants.

·         Homes with any heating source are eligible.

·         If you are a tenant, your landlord is required to sign an agreement and contribute to the cost of the project.  You must  contact your landlord to initiate this paperwork.

Once You Are Eligible...

·         When your application and household forms are completed and approved, you will be placed on a waiting list and be scheduled for an energy audit with priority given to disabled persons, elderly persons (60 years or older), and households with children under six years of age.

·         Weatherization of your home depends on funding availability for your particular type of house and fuel source.  There is no guarantee your home will be weatherized, but once your application is approved, it will be valid for one year.  After one year, approved applications will expire.

·         You must attend an Energy Conservation Class as it is offered in your section of the County.  Once your name nears the top of the list, you will receive an invitation to attend a class.  Your home will be audited within three months of the class.
