WEATHERIZATION
Weatherization provides energy saving measures to dwellings, including insulation, venting, and/or air sealing to help make the home more energy efficient. All assistance depends on the availability of funds and ability of applicants to meet eligibility requirements. This program is available in Okanogan County.

Weatherization Eligibility

  • Owners and renters are both eligible, provided they meet the program requirements.
  • Income for the household from all household members over the age of 18, should not exceed 125% of the poverty level.
  • There is no cost to owner / occupant or tenants.
  • Homes with any heating source are eligible.
  • If you are a tenant, your landlord is required to sign an agreement.

Once You Are Eligible
When your application is completed and approved, you will be placed on a waiting list and scheduled for an energy audit. Priority is given to disabled persons, elderly persons (60 years or older), and households with children under six years of age.

Weatherization of your home depends on funding availability for your particular type of house and fuel source. There is no guarantee your home will be weatherized. Once your application is approved, it will be valid for one year.

  • Broken glass replacement
  • Hot water tank wrap and low-flow shower heads
  • Air sealing
  • Appropriate venting
  • Indoor air quality, health and safety testing

HOME IMPROVEMENT PROGRAMS
Home improvement programs are for homeowners only and require weatherization services. This program may include:

  • New roofs or repairs
  • Handicap accessibility
  • Porch and electrical systems
  • Basement and foundation repair
  • Health and safety improvements
  • Mobile home repairs

ASSESSMENT SERVICES (provided for a nominal fee)

Lead Based Paint Risk Assessments/Clearance
Services are provided to the public at a reasonable rate. Homes built before 1978 may pose a lead-based paint hazards. Homeowners/Homebuyers learn if the paint in the home can affect children/pregnancy before the remodel/purchase. For eligible applicants, LBP Risk Assessments can be included in Community Action's Home Improvement Program grant/loan package.

Duct Blaster
This thorough test allows you to measure the effectiveness of your HVAC duct systems. The Duct Blaster measures air leakage and guides duct sealing to improve the efficiency of cooling/heating of your HVAC system. For eligible applicants this test may be included in Community Action's Home Improvement Program and/or Weatherization grant/loan package.

Infrared Camera Analysis
See how much heat your home is losing due to poor insulation through the wall cavities of your home.

Asbestos Good Faith Survey
our certified AHERA building inspectors can sample suspected asbestos containing building materials before or during a home improvement project to help you better plan your project. For eligible applicants a Good Faith Survey can be included in Community Action's Home Improvement Program grant/loan package.
